In his home full of cheer
Roth was adding last touches
And toasting the year
He checked his list carefully
His work was all done
And he sighed with relief, it
Was time for some fun!
The cards they were posted and
The presents all wrapped
There was food in the fridge and
His visits were mapped
In his front room, resplendent
His tree with a star
Which recalled the old tale of
Three wise men afar
As he sat reminiscing
Of true tales he'd told
He remembered all those who
Were out in the cold
So he called on the badgers
And toasted their sett
Then he played them at dice and
He lost ev'ry bet
Roth returned to his house and
He closed his back door
And his ears they were filled with
A welcoming roar
So he popped in on Kingy
The lion upstairs
And they buried the hatchet
Then drew up some chairs
They shared cold cuts of zebra
With cheese, port and bread
And then, both of them weary
They farewelled to bed
As he put on pyjamas
Brushed teeth to both ends
Roth counted his blessings;
Health, family and friends
And so long before midnight
With a hot milk in bed
Roth watched Monty Python
Then slept like the dead
And when Santa came calling
He left them cool things
Three new BluRays for Roth and
Three new ties for King
Then old Santa's eye twinkled
He'd a long way to go
But he'd just time to leave them
A blanket of snow
Twas the night before Christmas
And all round the Earth
Folk were adding last touches
And toasting new birth
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Merry Christmas to you, my dear Roth! May you get that new D&D figure you always wanted, along with a gift certificate for zebra pizza and plenty of ale with which to wash it down.

Hey CatLady! I've already accumulated a nice little stash of Christmas booty from family and friends, and have enjoyed delivering the same to them. Happy Christmas to you and Vlad!
ReplyDeleteHey Kato! I'm glad this one hit the spot. It has to be the quickest entry I've ever written; some days the just write themselves =) Happy Christmas to you, Dave, and the wee furry ones!
Hey 'Difficult! Thank you. I must write an epic poem about our heroic exploits. The Ilead? The Odyssey? They'll seem totally credible after I'm done with mine. Happy Christmas to you, Mrs. LongSuffering, FluffyDaughter and whatever the cat's currently called.
Hola Eolist! Thank you, and the same to you. I'm settling in with cold cuts, cheese and a stiff drink after a fab day. And of course, I've already received a Domino's voucher! YES!! Bless you x
Once again, Happy Christmas one and all! Indigo
Merry Christmas to Indigo

Wow, you're a poet, too! You did a great job on this-- I totally loved it. Hope your Christmas measured up to the anticipation!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your recent comments at my place, too-- I'm remiss in my reading, but trying (valiantly, I hope) to get caught up!
Merry Christmas, friend!
Hola Ms. Unknown! Thank you, I'll do my best =)
ReplyDeleteHi Leah! I'm really pleased you like it. I'm pretty sure it's just a daft handful of rhyming couplets that made me smile, and not really poetry, but I'll happily accept the compliment. Thank you.
Another busy day tomorrow! Indigo
Hello my friend. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI loved that! More please!
ReplyDeleteHey Britta! And to you. Christmas was fine, thanks. I must confess I was a bit underwhelmed by it all; there's only so much coal a man needs ;>
ReplyDeleteHola Kitty! Glad you liked, I hope all the lions and badgers made sense. As for more, I hate to go all Poppins on you, but enough is as good as a feast. But hey, maybe I'll write a song one of these days?

I just keep coming back to read your blog - thought I'd better follow for real. Looking forward to reading your stuff in the new year.
ReplyDeleteHope it will be a very happy one!
Hey Rebecca, glad you'll be a regular! I put a last minute 2009 entry up, and will leap forth with sparkling 2010 content as soon just as I've buried all the coal from Christmas. Yes, I'm a carbon creditor. Indigo
ReplyDeleteAnd from the title I was expecting an entry dedicated to pizza
ReplyDeleteBut what I found instead was much more of a treat :)
Ah Robbie, how well you know me, sir! *tummy rumbles* Damn you! But thank you, you're too kind. Indigo
