I find the exotic-sounding Madame Bianca under Psychics in the Yellow Pages. Apparently she's an expert Tarot card reader. This is all new to me, and I'm genuinely intrigued, and a little excited. I even forego mowing the lawn.
After some explanation of how the reading of Tarot cards works and very little by way of mumbo jumbo, the pleasant gypsy seer gets going with my reading.
She turns the first card over.
The likeness is uncanny. I even own the necktie. There's a lot of shouting. She accuses me of tampering with her cards, but I plead ignorance with a clear conscience. That would be bad form.
Seeming to calm slightly, she points out to me that The Liar was dealt to the table upside down.
I ask her if the picture being inverted is significant.
Hefting her crystal ball, she says it is.
Apparently it means I'll be getting a headache.
And do you know what?
I predict she'll be right.

Captain's Blog - Supplemental
Hi all,
I had a lot of fun with the picture for today's post. It represents around four days work with PowerPoint (yes, PowerPoint) with a lot of reference to photos. All painstakingly done by hand without a safety net, and only moderate pizza.
I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions about the significance of each bit of imagery. None are serious, and this really isn't to be taken seriously.
For those of you who don't know much about tarot cards, there is no Trump 23. There is no card called The Liar. For those of you who do, I salute you. My maternal grandmother was a well-regarded medium, psychic and fortune teller. I have very little memory of her, other than I loved her very much.
Anyway, please give the picture a click (or click here). You'll see the full image, including the über-groovy keyboard, and get a good idea of why I had so much fun doing it.
See you all again soon,
Indigo

I love this! Nice handiwork - Brilliant in fact! Wish i had half your talent.
ReplyDelete- it occurs to me that there are several of your stories woven into this card, some which you have told and others which we will see in the future.
It's beautiful! But PowerPoint? Seriously? I had no idea it could be used this way. Which is okay; I already have too many creative outlets!
ReplyDeleteGreat illustration Indigo! I have to check that powerpoint out cause you can make some freaking nice fingers I must say! When I draw fingers in paint, they come out like deflated balloons. This illustration really screams psychadelic 60's stuff and The beatles for some reason. Indigo in the sky with diamonds? Good job! ~ Trish
ReplyDeleteWow, Indigo, I think I know how you feel. It's like when I finish editing a particularly good sketch. Only a few may admire it, but in the end, YOU were really glad you did it, 'cause it looks pretty darn good. :D
ReplyDeleteIt looks awesome, actually. I see...a...SQUIDREL!
I am struggling to get my head around how you did this using powerpoint! Wow! Fantastic work, you certainly have mighty geeksticals :)
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I am not getting all of the references though - will you be elaborating at some point or keeping it mysterious?
Hats off
Hey Eolist! Thank you. As my "sneak peek" buddy, your encouragement dragged me along when this got really difficult. As for content, Scott nailed one of them, but who knows about the rest? ;>
ReplyDeleteHey Nancy! I imagined this would be pretty quick, and that I'd do three cards at once. Man, was I wrong. You'll have to wait a while for the one of iDifficult.
Hey Ms. Nekkid! Thank you, it's a massively layered piece. This mirrors the way I make greetings cards (a rare event) and PowerPoint is good at this. Most of the cool effects are sleight of hand. As for Indigo In The Sky With Diamonds, I'll accept that compliment happily!
Hey Scott! Satisfaction tinged with exhaustion, elation and a big dollop of relief. And yes, it might well be a Squiddrel. By the way, I've consulted with my legal people, and there's officially two "D"s in Squiddrel. I had to go back and check, too, as I've spelled it both ways. Bloody red tape, eh?
Hey Robbie! Thank you sir, I did my best. Actually, I rather like PowerPoint as a drawing tool, it does everything I need without being complicated. Visio drives me nuts, and I've never used Corel. Horses for courses. As for references, most of them have meaning to me, except one. That was put in just because it was pretty! But who knows, watch this space...
Thanks one and all! Indigo
Uber groovy tarot card! And a grandmother who was a respected medium, psychic and fortune-teller? No wonder so many things go bump in the night at your house. Just watch out for that crystal ball Madame Bianca is hefting.
ReplyDeleteDid you notice that if you squint and cock your head slightly to the right it appears blurred and wonky? Spooky huh.
ReplyDeleteI want that card in my deck Indigo! Madame Bianca sounds lovely ;-)

Hey CatLady! I've no idea of the reality of such things, but I've often wondered if I've inherited something of her outlook. I can look at situations and things and find a totally different interpretation to everyone else. I've been accused in the past of pulling thoughts from people's heads, but I think it's just observation. We give a lot more away than we realise when we're not paying attention. And thank you, I'm glad you liked it!
ReplyDeleteHey 'Difficult! Ooooh, it does! And if you tip it a full ninety degrees, the water runs out. Has anyone got a towel?
Hey Ms. Fin! I was hoping you'd like it, and not be offended. I'm open to all ideas except higher taxes and a world without pizza. Drop me your address, I'll send you a framed copy.
Thanks one and all! Indigo
brilliant pic, that wasn't an iPad was it? very well done xx
ReplyDeleteOffended? Impossible! It’s beautiful! I'm sending you an official art request on fb =)

That is amazing! I love the tie. I wish I knew a medium I'd love to know what was going to happen next. Did you inherit any of your grandmother's skills?
ReplyDeleteHey Les! Thank you, and sadly no. They could do with some racier wallpaper to tart up those iPad press releases. The one they use is so damned dull!
ReplyDeleteHey Ms. Fin! That's high praise indeed, thank you so much. If I'd written a longer entry, I'd planned to outline the meaning of the image elements, but in the end it seemed more fitting to leave it open to interpretation. I'll go read FaceBook ;>
Hey Jen! Thanks, glad you liked it! As for my grandmother, check out my reply to CatLady earlier. Who knows, perhaps I did. Oh, and the tie's a Duchamp, and is one of my favourites.
Thanks one and all! Indigo
This is SO good! I know everyone has said it, but POWERPOINT? You got skills, baby!
ReplyDeleteStigmata issues?
Hey Chrissy! Thank you, you've made my 7am. But stigmata? Two words: Strawberry. Jam.* ;>
ReplyDelete(* No strawberries were harmed in the making of this picture)
When I saw this tarot image last night on your 101 page, I had deep respect for your photo-shop skills. Seeing that you did it all in PowerPoint, I am truly in awe. But No. NO. I will not believe it. You channeled some mystic, psychic powers and drew that with a simple effort of will, didn't you... Didn't you? ADMIT IT!
ReplyDeleteAh, 'beck, old boy, you have me there. I'd have confessed, but nobody ever believes a word I say. You know, I'd swear they think I make this stuff up. And thank you. Indigo
ReplyDeleteWhen you own property, it’s easy to overlook how much work lawn care can be and it’s something that is not always factored into the routine maintenance. It’s easy to assume that you’ll have an area that requires little lawn maintenance.
