This is too uncanny Indigo - my post for Sunday is also a reminisce on 'mother'. Mine too persuaded me grapefruits were wondernuggets. I'd give anything to have one now. Can't get 'em here. But we do have mosambi. Yummy sweet limes.

Just thought I'd offer an alternative for you... good to see you back in the blog-seat. 8~>

  6. I like the pink and the red ones, which are sweeter. Your mother was wise to say grapefruits are "nice" rather than "good for you," yes?

    1. Hey Nancy! Oh my, yes; I do not take direction well. Rebellious Brit genes, see? Apologies for the slow reply, I've been tied up in the cellar with just daily deliveries from Domino's for company. Indigo x

  7. I love grapefruit. Alas, my current med cocktail won't allow me to eat them. I fear I am doomed once again to live vicariously through the pursed lips of others more fortunate.

  8. For less squinting of the eye, I suggest sunglasses. Wearing them at the breakfast table also gives you that morning after/rock star look. Chicks dig it.

That's a very sweet memory of your mother. And she's right. They are nice.

  11. A lovely memory you share here. While I dislike the color pink, I do love pink grapefruit. I suspect they all taste about the same, but I imagine the pink ones to be a bit sweeter.

    1. Hey Max! Being buzzed by a grapefruit would make for easier swatting than a house-fly. Unless you put the warp nacelles on it? Hmmm. Damn. Now I've given you ideas. Roth

  13. How funny, as in coincidental, but also ha-ha. My mother liked grapefruit and I just found it painful. This week you wrote about your mom and so did I. And yes, they were usually right, although I never did acquire a taste for grapefruit.

  14. Indigo, I've said it many times by now, but I still mean it: You are a clever writer, my friend. I enjoyed the way you turned something as mundane as breakfast into something whimsical and strange.

    1. Hey KZ! Thanks man. But hey, food is never mundane! Tho having Max around does add a certain "danger money" aspect to any scene, it's true. And you can never have too many badgers about. Weasels and ferrets? Not so much. Roth

  15. I don't think I've ever had a grapefruit.. I might have tasted a piece once, if I remember correctly, but I don't remember if I found it nice or not. Another lovely post, Indigo, a treat to read. :)

    1. Hey Mia! I've never been a honey fan, but a sprinkle of soft brown sugar can take the edge off a really sharp one. Hope you're well honey, I do worry despite my prolonged absences. Indigo x
