And Thankfully Never Used

I like my life. It's amazing.

Writing, drawing, eating, friends, family - what's not to like?

Okay, so it's also hectic, frustrating, bizarre and often impoverished. And despite my heroic height, mad skills and kind nature, some of the days end up being absolute shockers.

But I get through them, because there's always something better coming along.

Something creative and rewarding, imaginative and fun.

And dammit, I'm British. And proud.

Not proud of the government, you understand. They're shiftless, privileged wasters. Warmongers, liars and thieves, oh my!

But I'm proud of who I am and where I come from.

If I need a mantra for my days, it's this one, originally planned for use if we were invaded during World War Two, and thankfully never used. Advice for the besieged spirit.

Indigo Roth - The Best Of British - Keep Calm Carry OnIt hangs on my wall as a constant reminder to keep it together.

It's such a quintessentially British sentiment.

My name is Indigo Roth, and I am British.

Keep Calm. Carry On.

  2. Hi Jayne! It totally defuses me. And by the way, if you'd like to be an honorary Brit, we'd love to have you. Indigo x

  3. What? No bowler?

I'm going to need to see you in a bowler. I don't fully believe you're British.

    Pearl

p.s. I didn't know that the phrase came from a what-if situation. I knew it was related to WWII, but I assumed it was the air raids. What a sturdy, practical people you are. :-)

  5. Good for you (old chap, I want to say!) You look awesome! It's a great mantra, but as they say in the jungle, "Keep calm and share your bananas."

    Love it!

  6. Hey Pearl! Well, I have a bowler hat, obviously... but I think your idea of photos of me in just a bowler aren't going to fly. It might frighten the horses.

Hey Eolist! It's my best suit, and the only one that actually fits right now. Being stout and proud has its drawbacks. And thank you.

Hey Leah! You can "old chap" or better yet "old boy" me anytime. Funny you should mention sharing. At the time this slogan was first mooted, everyone was subject to rationing system; limited food, candy, materials and fuel, all the way 'til 1953! So, not a lot of sharing. But man, we had spirit!

    Thanks one and all! Indigo

  7. Didn't old Winston Churchill note K.B.O. on some correspondence to say 'keep buggering on'???

    That's my mantra anyway.
